Here you will find more than 300 exhibitors, cultural, artistic and religious activities, among others; sports events, boxing and bullfights; and music concerts performed by artists such as Margarita la Diosa de la Cumbia.
Now, let us tell you the story of how it all began:
This one of the most important events in the state of Yucatan, and it began to be commemorated in 1903. The story tells that in 1907 the people in the towns around Valladolid started suffering from smallpox, and a lumberjack was coming back to his home town, passing by Pixoy, on his way to Popolá, when he heard some birds and someone coming his way.
He decided to hide in order to see what was happening and surprisingly he saw that it was Virgin of Candelaria with a baby in her arms, darkening the sun as she passed through. He went to see the chief of his town, who told Priest Góngora in San Servacio, Valladolid. Learning about this happening, Priest Góngora went to see the surrounding towns just to find out that the illness was gone. Since then, Virgin of Candelaria became the patron saint of the city of Valladolid.
