Playa del Carmen is one of the most attractive destinations. The different ethnic groups that melted in the population and its origins as a small fisherman village, have made of Playa del Carmen, what we see today: a growing tourism destination full of life with a bohemian personality.
- The best way to move all along the Riviera Maya is through cheap shuttle services, is a good and cheap transportation. In Playa, they pick up at the corner of Calle 2 and 20 Ave and leave every 15 minutes.
- In the heart of the tourist complex of Puerto Aventuras, there are special facilities for interactive swim with dolphins programs where you will be able to enjoy kisses, hugs, games, handshakes from these tender marine mammals.
- Everything you need is located in one avenue. In Playa del Carmen you can find in the Fifth Avenue all the shops you need: from art, alcohol, clothes, jewelry to the most delicious restaurants.
- Taste what Mexicans eat, get regional food at great prices at the Main Plaza of Playa on Av. Juarez and the 5th Avenue. You will find fresh fruits, Mexican candies, tortas, tacos, corn, etc.
- Alux, in Juarez Av., is a bar/restaurant/nightclub inside a cave with a Cenote (sinkhole). Have dinner or dance all night in this magical place with latin rhythms and live music.
- Try the “Río Secreto” or Secret River. This is an underground formation for speleological lovers and adventurers only 10 minutes by car from Playa.
- In the heart of Playa del Carmen and the 5th Av. you will find cozy and low-budget hotels that will make you have great moments, like Mosquito Blue, Basico, or Cohiba.

- There are some nice Mayan ruins only 20 minutes walking from 5th Avenue, called Xaman-Ha which means “waters of the north”.
- Many restaurants in Playa have their own version of a small show or a way to prepare flaming Mayan coffee tableside. Three guys in vertical line pour the coffee from one hand to the other. Even if you don’t drink coffee you will have to try it once, in local restaurants like Yaxche.
- During our vacations eating habits may change from what are used to at home. Factors as the weather and altitude may alter our health, therefore, take it easy the first days until your body get used to the environment. Drink bottled water.
- The “Makech” is a living beetle used as an ornament brooch among the Mayans. When a Mayan boy wants to marry a Mayan girl he catches a beetle and decorates it with small stones and a small chain ready to wear. The souvenir is typical from the city of Merida, but still you could find them in markets of the Mayan Riviera.
